Our May Meet The Team focusses on Michael, Manager of our Refurbishment Centre. Many will recognise Michael from the many Circular Economy and Zero Waste focussed events he attends and speaks at.
He's also a familiar face at awards events, where he's represented RPL and accepted awards on our behalf. You might also recognise Michael from his Content Pathway Interview, or the recent Scottish Renewables Young Professionals Green Energy Awards 2019 announcement that named him as a finalist in both the Business Development, and Judges Award categories!
You can already discover more about each member of the RPL team on our about us page where a short bio and picture will give you a quick peek behind the curtain to see who’s making the magic happen, but for a bigger insight into our world we’re releasing monthly blogs on our website & social medias centred around getting to know a different member of the Renewable Parts team in each post.
We kicked off the series in late 2018, so make sure you go back and find out more about the team members already interviewed!
How long have you been at Renewable Parts and what is your role?
I have been with Renewable Parts since October 2017, so around 14 months, although my first 2 months were on a part time basis as we carried out some finishing touches on the Refurbishment Centre building which was converted from its former use as an ambulance station. I now operate as the general manager of the refurbishment centre.
What does your average day entail?
My days are extremely varied, ranging from parts assembly in the workshop to administrative duties. With the refurbishment centre growing steadily we are constantly bringing in new equipment and tools, and the working week can very between the day to day refurbishments and looking at new opportunities for refurbs we haven’t done before.
Why did you choose to work at Renewable Parts?
Having previously been self-employed for 12 years I always felt it would be a challenge to find a job that would suit me. Renewable parts is a business going through a period of rapid growth with a young, dynamic and forward thinking team where ideas are embraced and encouraged, and the business has an environment where you can put ideas across and feel like you are really making a difference.
What is your favourite part of the job?
In the refurbishment centre it is very satisfying to find a solution that allows a part to be refurbished and recirculated where previously it had been considered waste or scrap. When we come up with a plan for a part and get a process in place it’s great to see the finished, refurbished product all sprayed and packaged and ready to send out.
What 3 words would you use to describe the culture at Renewable Parts?
Open, innovative and fun
When you are not working hard at Renewable Parts what are you most likely to be doing?
I enjoy spending time with my family and we try to travel as much as possible. I try to stay active and I play basketball with a local team in Oban, also coaching the primary level juniors.
With over 20 years experience in wind turbine maintenance and parts supply, we have the technical expertise to help you reduce costs whilst maximising availability levels.
