We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet with our local MP, Gavin Newlands (SNP) as part of his tour of Westway Park this week.
On his stop at our head office in Renfrew, Gavin took the time to meet with our Chief Executive James Barry to discuss the role of government in helping SME’s in such a strategic industry. Commenting on the meeting James noted that "The opportunities for growth in Scotland are considerable and businesses based here are best placed to provide that service".
The government's role in supporting the industry is is vital for the future of renewables, now more than ever. The “collapse” of the onshore wind industry has been directly attributed to the government’s failure to consider the climate and economic costs of policy change; since the introduction of new policies governing the construction for new onshore wind developments in 2015 there has been a 94 per cent drop in the number of planning applications submitted. Despite this blow to both the industry and renewable energy generation in the UK, onshore wind still proves to be the cheapest form of new-build electricity generation available in the UK today with surveys also showing that most British people support it.
We always love to share what we do at Renewable Parts, but the opportunity to speak directly with our local MP and discuss the importance of our industry as well as the opportunities and difficulties we face was invaluable. We look forward to meeting with Gavin again in the future.
